São Paulo – The United Arab Emirates increased Brazilian beef purchases from January to September this year by 14% compared to the same months in 2020, according to data released this week by the Brazilian Meat Packers Association (Abrafrigo). The country imported 33,900 tonnes and was the sixth major destination for the Brazilian product abroad in the period.
Another Arab country, Egypt, is also one of the six leading buyers of Brazilian beef abroad. From January to September, Egypt was the fourth topmost destination for the product in volume, with imports of 47,400 tonnes. The country, however, reduced its purchases by 53.2%, from 101,400 tonnes in the first nine months of last year.

According to Abrafrigo, this year, total Brazilian beef exports grew 2.84% in volume over the same period in 2020, reaching 1.5 million tonnes, and 22% in revenue, to USD 7,4 billion. Data include fresh and processed products.
September
In September, Brazil had record-breaking beef exports with a 31% growth in volume and 79% in revenue, to 218,500 tonnes and USD 1.1 billion, surpassing August. The performance was achieved despite the embargo by some countries on the Brazilian product due to two atypical cases of mad cow disease discovered in early September. China kept its purchases suspended; however, it was still the foremost destination for Brazilian beef from January to September 2021.
