Soybean
In 22 years, the soybean area in Brazil went from 11.3 million hectares to just over 35.7 million hectares, an increase of 216%. Allied to this, comes the average productivity, which grew 43% from 1997 to today, from 39.7 bags to 56.6 bags. These two factors made Brazil achieve a total current production of almost 120 million tons, fighting (ton by ton) with the United States for the position of the world’s largest producer of the oilseed. Does it seem little? But in 22 years the national production grew an incredible 360%, since in 1997 the national harvest was only 26.1 million tons. Mato Grosso alone, the largest national producer of soybeans, currently produces 32 million tons, well above the total amount at that time. The state, by the way, has been the largest national producer since 1999. It is worth mentioning that, in that year, total production was 8.8 million tons, 264% less than the current harvest. The second position among the states that produce the most is a classic fight between Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul. Traditionally, the people of Paraná have always had the advantage, but the difference between them has been very tight since the 2015/2016 crop, until, finally, in this last crop 2018/2019, after a strong crop failure due to the weather in Paraná (16 .3 million tons), the gauchos took the second position, with a harvest of 18.7 million tons.
